For Crossroads, the Repertory Theater of Iowa will present a scene from Horton Foote’s The Trip To Bountiful, which the RTI company presented last September at Westminster-Presbyterian Church to kick-off its 2009 – 2010 season. In this scene, the main character, Carrie Watts, an elderly widow, has run away from her son’s apartment in Houston to visit her childhood home in Bountiful, Texas, one last time. In route, she shares a seat on a bus with a young woman, with whom she shares her inner-most feelings about her childhood, her unhappy marriage, the loss of her children, and her home in Bountiful. Theater critic John Busbee called The Trip To Bountiful“a richly textured masterpiece which marvelously adds to Repertory Theatre of Iowa’s growing mission to bring the classics to life.”
