2009 FILM AND THEATRE SHOWCASE: FOCUS ON THE FUTURE (FILM) & FOCUS ON THE ACTOR (THEATRE) FREE TO ATTEND! REGISTER AT IOWATIX.COM Iowa’s Film Industry has seen explosive growth over the last year, bringing dozens of film professionals to our state and creating a solid workforce for the future. This year Crossroads bringing together the film community to celebration the amazing work of the past year and forge a new vision for the future. At the core of theatre is the actor. Crossroads 2009 focuses on the amazing talent of our theatre companies by featuring one-act presentations that highlight the skill of the actors in intense performance driven work. 6-8pm Open Networking – Lobby, Sideshow Stage, Black Box Theatre Featuring: Soundtracks from Iowa Film, Information Booths from the IMPA (Iowa Motion Picture Association), Iowa Film Commissions, 48-hour Film Project, Advocacy Station (where you can record you story on film), and our ‘Casting Room’ where you can meet 3 professional casting directors; have your head shot and resume reviewed; and have a picture taken for the Iowa Casting Association files. 8-9 pm Iowa Film Presentation - Black Box Theatre 30 minute presentation that includes film trailers and industry stats and address by IMPA and Iowa Film Office. 9- 9:30 Theatre Performance – Repertory Theatre of Iowa - Black Box Theatre For Crossroads, the Repertory Theater of Iowa will present a scene from Horton Foote’s The Trip To Bountiful, which the RTI company presented last September at Westminster-Presbyterian Church to kick-off its 2009 – 2010 season. In this scene, the main character, Carrie Watts, an elderly widow, has run away from her son’s apartment in Houston to visit her childhood home in Bountiful, Texas, one last time. In route, she shares a seat on a bus with a young woman, with whom she shares her inner-most feelings about her childhood, her unhappy marriage, the loss of her children, and her home in Bountiful. Theater critic John Busbee called The Trip To Bountiful“a richly textured masterpiece which marvelously adds to Repertory Theatre of Iowa’s growing mission to bring the classics to life.” 9:30-10:00 pm 2009 48HFP Presentation - Sideshow Stage This fast paced filmmaking event will celebrate it's 7th year in Des Moines in '10. 2009 participants took it up a notch, proving the Iowa’s indy scene is thriving. Come enjoy a showcase of films from 2009 and a look ahead to the 2010 event with Sam Tuomi, 48 Hour Film Project Producer. 10:00-10:30 pm “Gaggle of Saints,” Subjective Theatre Company - Black Box Theatre A Gaggle of Saints follows two college students off to a bash in Manhattan who find themselves inextricably linked to a wedding proposal, a beautiful dress, and the murder of a homosexual out for a stroll in Central Park. Starring Marnie Strate and Nick Cornelison. 10:30- 12:00 Open Networking - Lobby, Sideshow Stage, Black Box Theatre |
